Android touchscreen barely responsive — how to enable USB file transfer / ADB debugging with minimal taps?

I have an OPPO A53 (CPH2127, ColorOS/Android) with a cracked screen. The touchscreen is mostly unresponsive -- it works intermittently, maybe one successful tap every so often.

I managed to unlock the device once, but the screen keeps failing before I can finish setting things up. I don't have a USB OTG mouse/keyboard available right now.

What I'm trying to do:

  1. Switch the USB connection mode from "Charging/MIDI" to "File Transfer (MTP)" so Windows can see the storage -- normally this needs 2-3 taps (expand USB notification -> tap File Transfer).

    1. Alternatively, enable Developer Options and USB debugging to use ADB from a PC (Windows, with platform-tools already installed) to pull the data via adb pull.
  2. Is there any way to do either of these:

    • Via adb/fastboot commands alone, without touching the screen, given the phone is already unlocked but USB mode is stuck on "MIDI function"?

      • Via keyboard-only navigation on the Android lock/home screen (D-pad/Tab keys) if a USB keyboard is connected via OTG, in case I can get one later?
    • Any workaround appreciated -- I just need to recover personal files (photos/documents) before the screen fails completely.
